Why Your Connection Speeds Matter When Selecting An Internet Service Provider

Blog

Are you in the process of selecting an internet provider and feel a bit overwhelmed with all the different options for connection speeds? Here are some reasons to spend a little more money on faster speeds.

Avoid Internal Network Congestion

With the increase in people working from home, you are certainly going to have some network congestion issues. If you have a small cap for bandwidth and multiple people are trying to download files and video conferences, you'll run into problems with not having enough bandwidth for everyone to do what they're trying to do. One person's video quality may drop down to the point where it is pixelated, or another person has trouble connecting because it is so slow. Having higher caps on bandwidth can avoid this internal network congestion when everyone is using the internet at once.

Improve Download Speeds

Are you the type of person that needs to download large files? If so, having faster download speeds can make a huge difference. Your download speed will increase, which can help speed up productivity. While you may think that you do not download large files and do not need the increased speeds, others in your home may need it. For example, anyone that is downloading digital games to their video game console can easily have files that take several hours for huge 50GB files to download. It certainly makes using the internet an unenjoyable experience.

Improve Streaming Video Quality

Are you paying for a streaming video service so that you can enjoy the Ultra HD picture quality on your 4K television? You may not be getting that quality if your internet speeds do not support it. For example, streaming video in Ultra HD can easily require a 25Mbps connection in order for the show to stream at high quality. If you have multiple people in your home that are streaming 4K at once, multiply that speed for each person that uses it. You'll also need some additional speed to account for other devices that use data, such as computers downloading updates in the background. You will quickly discover that the bare minimum for speeds is sometimes not enough.

As you can see, internet speeds are more than just a way to help you get a file to your computer faster than normal. Reach out to an internet access provider find out what speed plans they offer in your area.

Staying Safe Online

When my husband and I decided to put a family computer smack dab in the middle of the living room, I never thought that we would have a difficult time keeping our kids safe online. Unfortunately, after a few weeks, we realized that one or more of our children was struggling with visiting websites where they shouldn't step foot. After a long process of testing out different internet safety software, we learned how to keep our kids safer. I want to show you the things that we learned, which is why I put up this site. Read these articles to learn more about internet safety, so that you can protect your children from online predators.
